2007 VFR800 Wisdom

Discussion in 'Honda' started by JimCulp, Oct 29, 2010.

I've got a line on a 2007 VFR800, allegedly a one owner bike in good condition with 2000 miles on it. I know the local Honda dealer well, and can easily find out whether or not they know the bike . I haven't seen it yet, and sense that it may be a little tough to sell. He's asking $6999.00, which strikes me as a bit high, so if I pursue it I'm going to be prepared to haggle.

I seek the guidance of you VFR veterans on two subjects: (a) What's your idea of a fair price, assuming good condition and maintenance; and (b) are there any particular issues with 07 VFRs I should know about?

Any and all input will be appreciated.:)

    Thanks.

They have VTEC and don't have gear driven cams? :D :poke:

The thing is that any generation VFR in good shape will turn in similar performance and longevity. If you like the more recent models, then you shouldn't find it hard to get a good deal (7K strikes me as significantly more than the market price around here) but they wouldn't necessarily provide more grins than one from the '95-'97 or '98-'00 vintage, which would cost considerably less.

Just out of curiosity, what color is it? The only 2007 I would personally consider would be the red/white/blue, but I have a thing for older Hondas :D

I agree that the only known issues are the lack of gear driven cams, and the "VTEC". I hated the styling at first, but it's grown on me. I rode a friend's all white 2006 a couple years ago, and it seemed like a nice bike. I'm more partial to the 5th generation though (1998-2001).

$6999 seems way too high for one of those right now, too. I've seen CLEAN 5th gens for well under $3k, and I would expect you could find a good example of a 6th gen for around $5k right now.

I own one of them and I like it, mind you the noise a gear driven cam makes would be nice, but Vtec can be fun too... I haev 50000 kms on my 03 and it's still solid... needs to have Vtech synched but it's good other than that... Stay with a "modern" 600 till around 200km/h in a straight line.

Yeah, if you weren't partial to the 6th gens, you can get clean, low mile 5th and 4th gens now for cheap (don't ask how I know :o). With a fraction of the money saved you could upgrade the suspension on an older gen and have an awesome machine.

    No new info here either.

$6000ish IMO. Miles don't really mean much on a VFR since you could easily put 100k on one without much complaining from the bike. If they won't budge, you could easily find one a year or two earlier and pay around $4500.

I don't blame the owner for trying to hold out for $7k (98-01s are still around $3k) but you could probably walk find a dealer and drop $8k and walk out with a 0mi model that's two years newer.

Last year in NH (north side of W. Lebanon) we were at a dealer that had a RWB on the floor, zero miles, and priced at $7k. So I'm with the others that it is a bit high right now. This is not a good time to be selling (most) bikes.

Always worth making an offer you are comfortable with and being willing to walk.

Thanks gt, that's all I know for vfr pricing is when I went to get my 1000rr last year, they had rwb models in the crate for 7k$ if I recall correctly. This was in Windham nh. I know Honda had some big incentives on then which diluted the value of the newer gens.

I have an '07 RWB, paid $9500 almost 3 yrs ago for new, 0 miles. Have genmar risers & Pazzo levers, rotated wishbone plates to drop her ~3/4", did the PAIR valve mod FWIW, recently added HID low beams & a MRA variable touring screen. She's a bit heavy in the twisties but yet still sportier than many. She's gone 145 indicated, your speedo slop may vary. I have 15K on her, no probs. I understand brake bleeding is a bitch on these girls, haven't tried that yet. I've gone 400 & 600 mi. days on her in decent comfort, do have a taxi driver beaded seat on her on long trips though. Experienced a low speed (30ish) low side into grass/dirt, she held up fairly well & could be ridden home (20+ miles). I've not replaced the scratched lt. side panel due to cost. She runs HOT, I've put in a switch to allow turning the fan on at a temp. of my choosing. Side rads are not much good :^(. Planning to add a small 12v fan on the opposite rad controlled by the aforementioned switch. Running Engine Ice & Mobil 1 in her, so far so good. I like the sound when VTEC kicks in, not much add'l pull though. For those who don't like VTEC, simple solution, don't own one :^). The brights indicator is F'ing bright at night, not good for night vision, but solutions are available on the forums & there's always a pc. of tape. Hanging saddlebags w/o buying expensive hardware can be a challenge. About all I can think of for now ...

A friend of mine bought a brand new R/W/B last year for $7250 right off of the show room floor.

I'd have a pearl white or a rwb if I had a chance... I can still get close to around 5K for mine up here and I have 45000kms on it... but I have luggage and a bunch of stuff.

I may sell and move on to something else in the next couple of years though. who knows.

I like the way this bike handles, pretty easy to touch feelers down and it feels pretty stable at speed/lean for sure.

I really appreciate all the input from you folks. It's helped a lot. Thanks.:)
