5th Gen VFR

I was going to do a PM, but so many Vifferati here...

This thing look priced right? :bigear: Any model specific questions I should ask?

How expensive/difficult is luggage on the 5th gens?

    1999 Honda VFR800 *NICE*

I've seen 5th gens go for cheaper, but that one looks clean, low miles (for a VFR), and good choice of exhaust plus an aftermarket seat. Polished wheels will take some work to keep clean. Any other mods?

Not sure what's still available for luggage, mine came with a Sargent tank strap/bag but they're no longer available. Any tank bag should work, and I think Givi still makes rear racks and stuff for it.

I'm going to call tonight, but I doubt there are any others.

Rode with a guy that had that exhaust and really liked the OEM look and nice tone. Corbin seat is nice. Price seems slightly high to me too, but condition/mods are what I am looking for.

I have a Marsee magnetic tankbag...but I was kinda spoiled by the luggage on the GSA.

Do the 5th gens typically warrant the VFRness I see you guys talk about?

The Givi stuff is awesome. If you plan to do much touring a 3 bag Givi setup on their wingrack mount is top notch.

5th gens do still need a VFRness. I wouldn't worry about that at all though. It's $50 and a quick easy install.

The 5th gens still have great luggage options available. Most stuff has been discontinued for the 3rd and 4th gen.

FWIW I think that price is just fine for that bike based on what I saw when I was looking.

Exactly what I was concerned about. Thanks!

I love the fourth gen looks, but everything about the 5th gen seems like a better enough bike that I'll take the mechanicals over looks. Prices on clean 4th gens here in Cali are $3300-3500 anyway.

Just going to ask about the VFRness, if for no other reason than to look like I know the bikes. ;)

Might have to put your grip warmer and voltmeter threads to work soon. :)

Come to Grattan and take my '94 home with you! It's mint, has a GIVI 3 bag setup with Wingrack, SS Brake lines, Corbin, and a few other goodies. Everything included would be hundreds less than that one without the bags :poke:

Last year gas and repairs to go to Grattan cost more than this bike!

Your bike is very sweet though.:)

    :plus1:

The Reg/Rect is the only weak link on the 5th gens. Can't go wrong...

You'll want to address the suspension. :twocents:

You know what I think about those bikes. It's a great value, possibly only exceeded by Steven's. What's the differential if you ship his from MI versus buy the luggage? :dunno:
  15. luvtolean Moderator

Yeah...shipping is tough on bikes this inexpensive.

His is a fine buy, it's absurd he still has it.

If I had extra money I'd have two VFRs in the garage and his would be the second one.
