929 Stator

  1. ratchetman How fast will it go?

I'm rewinding one by hand again, I must be nuts. It's hard on the hands so you have to break the job up over about 4 evenings.

The one from RM stator burned up again.

Care to put together a how-to on that?

    Never done one myself...

What the big man said. Also, is this more of a "because you can" project or does it save a substantial amount of money?

is burnt out stators a canadian thing? mine is going on 9 years and 28k miles I think (knock on wood). assuming its the original which I think it is.
  6. ratchetman How fast will it go?

I'll post some directions later writen them before just have to dig them up. The original stator lasted about 25k miles. You may be due.

In the third picture you can see the beginnings of the three phases laying across. Then you can see the ends of the three phases standing up. In the other picture you can see the pattern of the phases on the core.

There are two options for configuring the windings as illustrated in my crude drawing. I prefer the Delta winding.

here it is after attaching the wires. I got some 150 degree C wire #14 so we'll see if it can stand up to engine oil

Now that's a cool project. I've never done anything like this, always been more comfortable with nuts and bolts than with electrons.

Keep up the reports, interested in how it turns out.

So far the cost has been my time. The magnet wire was given to me by a local electric motor shop and the high temp stranded was given to me by the appliance store around the corner.

I shouldn't have said anything. This looks like too much complicated work for me.

It looks pretty easy but I have no idea where to get a flux capacitor so I'm totally out.
  13. ratchetman How fast will it go?

I guess normal folks would just get a new one

so far so good, it's still working

Sweet, missed this the first time. That's a great informative post.

For those that don't know Delta and Wye are the two types of 3 phase power you can get in a building too...and if you're messing around with wiring on a 3 phase set-up, you better make DAMN sure you know what you have, and which leg is the "Stinger", if applicable. ;)
