they say torque gets you off the line and hp keeps you going. less weight=more hp. and you need more hp at higher speeds to overcome the increased wind drag.

and she presents a pretty small wind drag obstacle due to her size (just ask Brett about that particular aspect) . . .

I think she's helped us all go a bit faster today as well :D

do I need to post the video of RedRider trying to pass me under power again :D

Oh I am totally jealous of diminuative racers. I punched such a big hole in the air that people loved to draft me just to get a slingshot going into turn one.

Y'all quit derailing the thread with yer wee jabbering!

... I'll take one in a retro scheme with proper fireblade graphics. Please and thank you.

yeah something seems fishy about all this record setting business, top speed should only be a function of torque/hp, aerodynamics, wet weight, air density, wind, rolling friction, rider weight/shape. none of which have a damn thing to do with rider skill. i can't imagine the competition being further than 10 mph from each other. yay for the record, that's great, but nothing worth writing home about here folks.

actually let me correct myself, i'm not a physics major but i don't think that weight is a determining factor in top speed, just in acceleration. pretty sure some wizard proved me wrong about that point years ago >_>

I have to say that I get asked quite a bit how fast my bike will go, and my standard answer every time is "faster than I will go". My point is that when you are talking about 200mph on a motorcycle, you cannot discount rider skill. She did that on a stock CBR, so there's nothing stopping you from putting your money where your mouth is.

i know what you're saying, but holding on and hugging the tank while pinning the throttle isn't brain surgery. i suppose i equate rider skill to cornering mechanics and how to respond to 'oh shit!' moments, dynamics in chassis movements, the like. said rider is brave, no doubt, but it's not outrageous to think that many of us could do the same challenge if we were in the same position. this reminds me of the argument of road racing vs drag racing and which requires more skill, however with a top speed run the only things that matter are function of hardware against the elements and forces of nature. small rider that can hang on and tuck isn't what i call skill.

I get that too. My answer is "whatever I gear it to go".

But then it's satisfying to pass some of them back a few corners later.

Sure...so we can see who got passed going into T1. :rasp:

I'm gonna call Bullshit on this record, Yea it may be in the books. But until all of the manufactures have taken a stab at it, it's no record. It's just the first MPH layed down.

Bonneville is what it is. The records are set by the people and hardware that show up. If the other manufacturers want to take a crack at it they need to make the event. I would bet there were more than a few entries on different makes in this class though.

Not to take anything away from Leslie, she is a great person. I have know her since high school and she has loved motorcycles her entire life. She is FAST and knows how to handle a bike but this CBR is far from stock. It appears stock but other then the fuel management system, the motor had a bit of "fine tuning" work done to it as well. This is not a bike you can just go buy and run. This is a built CBR will allot of $$$$ in it.

Still pretty dam cool to see the CBR crack 200mph with no turbo... although she does have a turbo version that has a plethora of ponies.
