Gearing question for 1000RR

I'm gonna go and do the 520 conversion on the RR and will also change the gearing. Don't know what to get though... I'm thinking that Grattan as the longest straightaway I've rode, and don't think any of the track I plan on riding next year have that kind of straight. What gearing should I go with?

I understand they are 2 separate bikes buton the 954 the -1 did wonders on the track. On the 600 I currently run -1 +3. Just watch on the bigger bikes it will be more sensitive in the corners with the gearing change, but you are a very smooth rider so I would not worry about that too much. If you are doing several tracks I would suggest an assortnemt of different sizes for different tracks.

You could take the gearing spread sheet enter RR specs then play with various gears to get the desired top speed. I would start one down in the front though then go up on the back to increase the chance you will not have to alter the stock chain length.

Mine's 15/43... Worked well for me at Grattan but you might be bouncing off the limiter before your braking point. (15/42 1 down 1 up) would probably be perfect. My local track has a super long front straight and I whack the limiter in 6th before braking with this gearing.

Cal-Sportbike has a 520 Conversion Kit with -1/+2 gearing.... I guess I can't go wrong with that. That would put me at 15/43.....

Hmmmm was writing my post when you posted yours Phobe.... I might go with 15/42 then...

It'll work great, you just might need to let off the gas a touch sooner for T1 @ Grattan.

    (I mean 15/43)

I think 15/42 would be perfect for a mix of tracks.

I did the 520 conversion on mine, and got the RK/Vortex kit. I'd have to look on the bike to verify, but I'm pretty sure it's -1 front and stock rear.

You had it at Grattan last summer?

Whenever you get a chance let me know for sure what is your gearing. If I recall you where not close to hitting the rev limiter ?

15/41, just went out to the garage and verified. I don't remember what RPM I was at, but I might get a different rear sprocket before next season. My BC800 shows a max speed of 147 from that event though.

The gearing I'm most concerned with is the motard though. I was already at redline in top gear when I came out of the last corner before the straight, so the whole way down to T1 the bike was pinging the limiter. Maybe it's no wonder the thing blew up :D. I'll bring a few different sprocket sizes for both bikes next time.

I'll look at the DVD you just sent me and listen to your engine going down the straight :D It will help me decide.

Well, just keep in mind I had to keep backing off the throttle to avoid running into you. :D

Here is an RC sheet I modded. I assumed no change to the tire diameter as they both run 190/50 however you can insert your measured tire for best results.

I'll have to mess around with that a bit. I have a gearing calculator somewhere. I'm running a 180 rear on my CBR though.

Here is some 208GPa diameters. You can also click over to 209s (Sportmax GP) or Qualifiers

I'm not fully trusting diameter measurements anyway. Sure it might work for static purposes, but I remember Baketech's rear tire grew enough under high speed that it was rubbing his swingarm.
