True but you can use the spreadsheet to see shifts in speed at shift point. Best alternative I have :gve:

I had no problems with 15/43 on the 3/4 mile straight at Miller but that's with a 195/70 slick. I did melt a hole in my hugger though.
  3. Tuffy6969 Have you ever seen a U-Haul behind a hurse? I have

:iamwithstupid: That was my gearing change too....works great!

I am running +1 -1 you rode it... It'll run to 175 mph roughly.
I love it, SOOOO much better than stock.

and buy some rims too would ya... think of the shipping you'll save putting it all in the same box.(It was this kind of thinking that got me into modding trouble in the first place...)

Yeah.... I unfortunatly rode your bike :crap:

I WANT THOSE DAMN RIMS :(

Hahaha, sorry, you can ride it again, only at Grattan this year if you want.

You can let me know what you think of the new rear Ohlins too:p (Sorry I had to...)

In Sixth? I was running 15/44 on my 929 and only tagged the limiter in 6th right at the "Elvis is waving at you, God is waiting" point. Maybe the internals are different on the 1K :dunno:

That's just a few feet before the apex right :p

Ok, what is the benifit of setting up a 5th gear bike rather than 6th.

I have heard some other people do it on race bikes. Apparently they just gear the bike for 5th gear top speed and do not use 6th. Usually they do this on short tight tracks. I can see some benifit is not shifting into 6th but wondering if it gives that much of a difference.

Haaaaaaa I see. Don't have a clue but I get it now :D

My guess would be that a liter bike with tons of hp would have to have a stunters rear sprocket installed just to get the bike to top out on a short front straight. plus the bike will never reach it's top speed (like it would on a longer straight). On my RS I don't change the gearing between to tracks that I ride. One has a straight about 1/3 the length of the other. The bike is geared for the longer track and on the shorter straight I don't bother using 6th. I don't bother re gearing just use one less gear.
I also don't have the luxury of having a cassette type transmission that I can swap out:D

    or after . . .

I have tried this a few times, but have found you end up wasting a lot of capability in the lower gears. If I geared my RC for 5th at Grattan, I would need to use first gear in about 5 places. I tried to run my 250 as a five speed at Gingerman (a few of the other 250 pilots swore by this setup), but it always leaves the thing in the basement on a couple of turns and actually required more shifts to keep my normal pace.

Would it not make the most sense to gear the bike in a way that has the best fit of revs on exit and entrance of the turns?

It's a compromise, what works in turn A may not work in turn B. As a rule I gear for top speed on the front straight, and do the best I can for all the turns, weather it be short shifting or taking a corner bumping off the rev limiter. If I'm at a pace where I'm doing this in many corners, then I'll re-gear, either drop or add a tooth and go through the same corners in either a lower gear or a higher gear or the same gear as before. You have to play with and see what works best.

I run 15/44 everywhere except Road America. Love it!
