not sure how cutting development time makes things cheaper. Wouldn't it make more sense to let a model go 3-4 years before changes rather than doing them quicker.

Hours of engineering. If you cut the time by 50% you could have one team do two bikes rather than 2 teams. In other words hours to develop not the lifecycle of the model

I'd rather see them get more customers by building the superior product, not the cheapest one.

gotcha but my way still works with that. double time between models and cut the teams in half but they take as much time as before so they aren't shortcutting stuff.

Not so much the sport bikes, but dirt bikes have sky rocketed in the last 10 years. Use to be able to buy one for about $4500 not too long ago. Now they are like 8k plus. I can see what they are talking about. Hopefully the others will follow suit.

Unfortunately, this concept doesn't work for the majority of people. While some are willing to pay more for a superior product, many/most people put more emphasis on the bottom line. And with the economy, jobs, and consumers financial situations being what they are today, that thought process holds even truer right now than ever before.

Yebbut...often times the lower cost product is also the highest quality one...Honda having this belief at their core... :twocents:

I'd consider that the exception rather than the rule, though.

And I'd consider you've become jaded by the fantastic array of inexpensive products that we use every day that make our lives safe and enjoyable... :)

Interesting...sportbikes I dont see it happening...but I would be interested in a dirtbike if it was cheap enough.

Sorry ... I'm one of the "some" who doens't mind paying a little more for a superior product ... ;)

Say, don't you need to be mowing the lawn, shaving your armpits, or packing for a move or something? LOL.

I had my armpits lasered...didn't care for the routine maintenance...
  15. gt702 Oh the memories

There have also been studies that indicate if a person pays more for the same product, they perceive the quality to be higher. Something about needing to rationalize the investment.

Bake, this new fascination with lasers is worrying me. I sure hope you aren't doing that quote (" ") thing with your fingers when you say it, or considering the underarm thing as a trial run. Though a VFR powered Big Boy space craft could be interesting.

:poke:Didn't we just talk about this somewhere else? Can I tell the future or what. :smilebig:

Really? Hook me up, I'm tired of the hassle.

It was their core belief in sporting motorcycles for sure.

It's one thing to make excuses for an expensive purchase AFTER you buy it.
It's another thing altogether to justify it BEFORE you make the decision.

Probably a ceramic laser at that ... ;)
