If the price is right, would high mileage still turn you away?

WOULD A HIGH MILEAGE BIKE, W/ DOCUMENTED CARE, PRICED RIGHT, STILL SCARE YOU OFF FROM RESPONDING?

Yes. Too risky it could "blow up", I only buy fresh bikes, or under warranty. 2 vote(s) 11.1%
Yes. Documentation is hard to trust, as well as oversights, has to be average or low mileage. 1 vote(s) 5.6%
Maybe, depends on model, research, and perhaps mechanic evaluation first. 5 vote(s) 27.8%
No, I can tell if it's been properly maintained and I like saving money. 7 vote(s) 38.9%
No. I can tell on the test ride, if it's tight, mileage really doesn't matter to me. 2 vote(s) 11.1%
No. I do my own work, and have had projects I restored, so if it's running, that's a bonus! 5 vote(s) 27.8%

I don't think I've ever had a bike with over 11 or 12k miles.
  2. gt702 Oh the memories

Even my minty RC51 is around 15k :)

Number 29 (the RC version, that is) has probably a total of 9500 miles on it. I bought it with about 7K and a rough estimate adds some 2500 miles on track. My 929 had less than 800 miles on it when I sold it a few years back. The tires never touched the street and the bike was only run on the dyno prior to being stripped to the frame and rebuilt as a racebike. History is everything and with all of my bikes, the oil & filter never lasted more than a weekend . . . Tires were changed every day (or sooner if needed).

I'm gonna stick with my wrenching on my own rides and no worries vote. If I was offered a deal I could swing on something rare and special, I'd still jump on it even if the motor was shot. (As long as the frame and body was okay.)

I had a 1993 ST1100, 93,836 miles. I bought it in November 2011, in great mechanical shape, but it desperately needed a professional paint job. I also installed brake pads, and steering bearing. I sold it, today, for $2850. It took a month of advertising. Winter time isn't the best time to sell for top dollar. Most of these bikes list between $3000-4500 depending on condition. Any higher a price is purely an emotionally driven choice and doesn't reflect the market value.
The history of the bike was somewhat documented, recent big dollar items ($700 alternator 40 amp upgrade), timing belt, tune up, carb cleaning, tank sealing, steering bearing, valve adjustment, etc, were taken care of. The bike runs as good as any 20,000 mile bike, no blow by, rattles, noise, or power loss. These are very dependable bikes that are known to hit 200,000 miles, if you ride that much.
For $3200, I found another, a few years newer, just 38,000 miles, Corbin seat, that I like more. He's also been listing it for a month without a bite. I think a well written ad with details, youtube video of it running, makes all the difference in the world to show what the bike is. Vague, incomplete ads get very few calls.
