Tough question, but I've found gains from air filter upgrades, power commander and slip on, and simply shaving weight. I do most of my weight loss on the bikes myself. Bolt kits, things like that. That's just me, I know there are better things to do, but I am happy with what I get from stock, so anything else is an improvement.

Oh sorry...I meant performance besides suspension.
  6. smoothrideronli Active Member

Uh...noooo...I dont drag race even though that is the best bang for the buck.
  7. quick26 New Member

all you said was biggest bang for the buck. :dunno: i dont know that there is 1 item that you can really get that would be you biggest bang for your buck. it would prob be a bunch of lower priced items that work in unison to make a defference to be your biggest bang for your buck

Well I mean things like headwork as compared to cams...sorry I wasnt more thorough.

i know that in messing with the atvs, portwork always made the biggest difference. then the addition of a cam, piston, and exhaust :woohoo: make me want to go home and ride just talking about it.

Not even close, a dropping a tooth on the countershaft is the biggest bang for the buck by a long shot.

I agree on the gearing change..
The fact is that the bike itself is a great bang for the buck, for which we can thank the guys that buy those VTX's and Shadows year after year.

A better question might be, where do you feel the bike's performance is coming up short?

I never modified a thing on my 954, performance wise.. I was the limiting factor.

I dont really think that the bike is coming up short...but as a gearhead I always look to create a better machine.

I'm told that the most cost effective mod is getting the rider to lose weight! I'm sure that doesn't apply to you, just us middle-aged spreaders :).

Don't worry, I'm continuing the lineage of being the limiting factor for ya!

Actually I am trying to lose about 7 pds...I am 6ft 215 and in pretty good shape...but I think that with some of those stickers that add 30 hp on the bike I can probrably get into the AMA

Funny you say that...I am taking one in March...but I want to get Ohlins front and rear...dont know if I can afford it though...

The Cheapest and safest Horsepower for the money would have to be a Turbo.

I think the ratio is.... Lose 8 lbs and gain 1 hp???

So if I starve myself, I save money on food AND I can make my bike (and I) faster!!!!!!!!????:hyper: :woohoo:
