Being an early adopter of the RC51, which was supposed to be that next best thing, I think I'll wait to see how this really turns out.

The RC51 is a fine starting point, but takes a lot of tweaking to get to a true race bikes (one of the shortcomings of trying to make it meet a low price point) and then it was good on only a select type of track

The benefit of the RC30, and some have said the 45 but I don't have any experience with that one, is that it was user friendly and worked in a variety of situation. One could only hope that by not designing this to a price point, the next LE Honda would have that flexibility.

But, the world of high end racing bikes has changed some and is a much more laser focused affair. I'll eagerly stay tuned ... but a bit cautious.

It would be an SC66 or SC67. The VFR1200 was SC63, the CB1100f is SC65 and the new Goldwing is SC68.

    The RC51 was actually SC45

This is THE bike I've been waiting for. A new Honda 1000cc V4. I keep kicking around the S1000RR and RSV4R, but keep coming up with reasons/excuses to not buy.
However, I still don't believe Honda has the sack to actually build it. They've gone soft.
I guess we'll have to see if someone starts buying up RC**.*** domain names. That's how you really know.

Beeder is right. Look at the RC51. Great bike, but nothing like their race-spec version. It took a lot of work to get it the same level. That seems to be the modus operandi for Honda in the last decade, plus.

Homologation specials are never sold to the general public in race trim from ANY manufacturer. The point is that they are supposed to be street legal.

Not that I give much credence to the idea that Honda is going to fight the superior power of the BMW and Kawasaki inline fours in WSBK with a complex and comparatively heavy V-4. That didn't work out so well with the RC45.

    Ummm...?

    RSV4?
  13. BobcatSig They call me "Auger."

Yes, thank you. I'm well aware of that. My point being is that the RC30/45 were closer to their race trim versions than the '51 ever was. Same with the Fireblade.
  14. phobe vfr1200fa.blogspot.com

The Fireblade has never been a homologation of a race bike.
  15. jamiedaugherty That boy sure is a runnin' fool

How do they justify the statement that the CBR1000RR's engine is "outgunned" by the BMW. They need to check their grip - as a production, street legal machine the CBR's engine is the best of the class by a fair margin. Motorcyclist buffoons strike again!

Best in what category? The BMW has ~30hp more and has proven to be pretty darn reliable.

Boy, don't tell Erv Kanemoto and John Koscinski that or Aaron Slight and Team Castrol . . .

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but as I recall Honda sold HRC kitted versions of the 1000RR and the 600RR with track only plastic in limited numbers to Japanese customers.

I believe your recalling is correct. I read that somewhere as well.

I've seen a CBR1000RR Basic Racer, and there was an RC51 too.
