Sometimes I really miss my Fireblade...

It gave me aches and pains on long trips, even with Helis, but by God, it was *amazing* to commute on the Atlantabahn with. BDC lane squatting? Not a problem! 28 goobs stalled at a light to turn right? Zip around and gone. Interstate shut down for hours on account of some Darwin fail - lane splitting ftw! (Okay, that was actually on the viffer, but still....)

It was awesome in the twisties too - once I got over being pissed off and cranky at actually getting to them. :D

    That is all.

P.S. And it got 40mpg on cheap gas, no matter how hard I beat it. Crazy.

Blorton, I took mine out for a little run yesterday. I made a corner in 3rd gear about 3k rpm, and just cranked her up to about 11k. It was a sweet feeling just having it pull and pull and pull. It felt like she just wanted to keep going and going. I keep telling my kids if they want this bike, they will have to exhume it.

You don't get all of that out of the Hyper?

I haven't even ridden mine in over a year and I still can't bring myself to sell it.

Not really. Obviously, the Hyper is awesome in the twisties, but it's narrow rpm range and wide bars make it less blink-speed capable. To me, anyways... Crappy fuel range hurts too.

I had a guy on a 929 with the red/white livery pass me this morning. We took the same exit off the interstate and I had the good fortune of stopping beside it in the next lane. Made me homesick.

Of all the bikes I've had, I miss that one the most.

    Posting for posterity...

I still miss my '96 900RR from time to time. People said they were twitchy and didn't like the wide tank but I liked it just fine. Rode it to Deal's Gap area and back with no issues. First bike I had on the track, at Heartland Park for STAR school. Fond memories of skimming my glove through a curve somewhere on the way back to Crossroads of Time from dinner in Fontana Village.

I still have my '01 929. It unfortunately never left the garage this season, hell, I only had the VFR out once, but I hope to remedy that next season. Can't sell it. It runs awesome and it's the first bike I did a lot of work on myself. And, for a sportbike, it's pretty damned comfortable.

    Troof!

I was pretty appalled how committed the ergos are on the new ones.

I'm still rockin' mine out. 40k miles and "a couple" of trackdays but it's hanging in there.

I made some spectacular memories with my 929, but I wonder how many people that miss them have ridden a CBR1000RR?

I rode Sheep's for a two up, and thought it was a better bike in every way.

I kick around dining another 954 sometimes. They've held their value pretty well.

For me, the 929 is more bike than I will ever need or be able to handle. I am sure there are some top notch rider here and elsewhere than can bring the 929 to the limit and use the extra provided by a newer machine, but I am not one of those. My 929 has been a family member for over 10 years now. All of my children have been on rides with me, my wife has thousands of miles on the back seat (bless her). She's been with me on it riding in snow and sleet, extreme heat, and damn near falling asleep on Bouquet Canyon. It was my ride back and forth to work when I had to travel to an office. It's been my therapist for the last 10 years as well. There's no way I will part with that bike. It would be like removing a body part. Not to mention it is drop dead sexy! I remember the day I walked into my dealer and met eyes with my 929. Love at first sight.

This whole thread does beg the question, how many 929's do we have still out here. I count at least 5 mentioned in this thread. Maybe they will be like P-51's in the future.
