My good buddy McCoy is in the need of suspension for his RC51 for next week-end. He has a track day at Calabogie that is paid for and we found out last week that the suspension on his RC is leaking. The leak is due to the chrome wearing out....... so not a 3 days fix.

I do have a set of forks for a 2007 600RR, anyone knows here if they would fit a RC51??? I'm not home and can'T measure anything, and McCoy is 2 hours away....

    Thanks in advance guys.

I have pits in mine that I think may not be good (I had new seals put in and they tried to smooth things)

Anyone know is it cheaper to get new bottom (260-280 at Ron Ayers) or can you get them rechromed or such? It sucks since I might need both sides

Not sure how much chrome is missing, but if it's not too bad, he could try prying down the dust seal and running a business card around the inner seal. Maybe a flake or two is in there making the leak worse.

A bit of alcohol in the oil, or a good dousing with brake clean of the seal could make it swell enough to seal up for the day, but it will ruin the seal long term.

Well, RC are 50mm and RR 48mm, so that does it.

Thank LTL, the forks are at a local shop right now, can't try any of this. We'll see tomorow

Exact E. Thanks for this post.

Depending of the depth of the worn section, I could maybe rechrome or polish the forks. By the way, both are worn. I'll have more details tomorrow.

If it can be fixed, I'll be an happy man. Else, I'll have to change them. I'll thus be an... less... happy man... 600RR forks won't fit. 929 or 954 or 1000RR may fit? Do you guys know?

    Thanks everybody for your help!

    929 or 954 might work.

    CBR1000RR uses radial calipers.
  10. Hammer Rollin

different part numbers on the 954 as well

The RC's forks are reasoanbly unique in the line. They have different length, caliper attachment and the separate damping reservior that you won't find on other Hondas in the same vintage. If looking for a substitute, just look on eBay for a set of RC forks . . .

I just got the 954 of a good friend of mine. I'll remove his fork and see if it fits. Not sure about the length though. If it fits, maybe the suspension feeling will not be the same... as long as it doesn't make me crash!!
  13. luvtolean Moderator

It'll bolt up, brakes will bolt up, length is different. Not sure if the axle will work.

Exact, axle doesn't work. Axle on the 954 is bigger.

Maybe I could use my axle with the 954 wheel, and fill the gap with putty? I would do anything for Calabogie :)

I'd make sure I measured the lengths before I took the RC stuff off to know where you need to be. If the geometry is off it could get ugly. You'd have to change the calipers over as well. Sounds like a huge hassle.

I hear ya. Once upon a time I drove all over the state looking for a rivit link. These are the reasons I tell the wife I need another 08' CBR as a back up bike :D

McCoy, what about just borrowing the whole bike rather than just the forks?
  19. phobe vfr1200fa.blogspot.com

What about just swapping the whole front end over? Forks, triples, wheel, brakes and all

If the steering stem is the same size that is the best shot
