Trackday Comparo - RC51 vs. 600RR

what about a 1000 vs the rc on the track for a first track day
  2. bwhip Every ride a gift

I think generally the RC would be less troublesome than the 1000, because it has significantly less horsepower. It's also heavier, but handles very well, and has outstanding brakes.

that makes me feel better. to me it seems like the 1krr is more like a cr250 and the rc would be more like a crf450. the cr is abrupt and screams, where the crf has a looooonnnnnggggg steady smooth pull
  4. Crash Arghhhhhhhh

Thanks for the write up bwhip!

All these types of conversations are helping me decide whether to prep the RC for track duty, or get a 600. I really like my RC although I have had to completly adjust my style to it. Which is partially why I wanted it, I4's just lost all character to me.

I don't think I can even come close to appreciating the RC until I get it out on the track and get back on Pirelli's. If you don't mind me asking, what's the total tally on your RC. Not cost really but parts and mods.

    Gracias Senor

I don't care if it's for the sake of comparison or not. Anyone who has TWO track bikes and brags about how great they are is a :asshat:

    I hate you.

    Thanks!
I am still trying to sell my 929, and will probably go after a 600.
But I have always been tempted by V twin power.
I plan to take the 929 to Jennings in the next few weeks to see what I really think of the whole track thing firsthand.
bwhip, your write-ups in particular have been very helpful, Thanks again :thumb:
Even though you DO suck for having 2 track bikes (plus other cool bikes, as I recall)!:D

I bought them used, so it doesn't really count as two (at least that's what I told my wife). ;)

I haven't kept perfect track of what I've spent (well, I have, but I'm afraid to look). Mostly I've found used stuff on Ebay or motorcycle forums. But as I recall, since I bought it (used, with PCIII, 520 and Sato Banzais, etc):

    • Sharkskinz and track gas tank $500.00
    • Sato rearsets $300.00
    • Kyle link $200.00
    • Kyle fork job $300.00
    • Ohlins shock $950.00
    • Kyle clip-ons $200.00
    • HRC quick-turn throttle $100.00
    • HRC brake pads $100.00
    • Tires, tires, tires
    • Pazzo levers $150.00
    • Slipper clutch $525.00
Those are the main ones I remember right now.

Actually that seems like par for the course...I am sure there are more thatn $3000 in expenses behind each bike...not to mention what your time is worth if you do your own work.

That's it.....if bwhip can have 2 track bikes, why can't I?? The 954 is going to be transformed!
  11. bwhip Every ride a gift

    That's the spirit! :thumb:
  12. DEPO Love you too HG2!

One Track Bike for me...... Then one killer Sport adventure bike..... got to tell ya... G-Force was correct when he made the move.....

I have to stay with the 954 for a track bike.... I tried Dan's 600RR and it was not the bike for me... but I am also 270lbs.
