Am I just late to the party or did we all know it was 17,499$ MSRP? and apparently "available now".

    2010 VFR1200F Options - Honda Powersports

Now I have to find out when and where they are and go check one out...

Are you sure, I mean, they're terrifying on the track with the standard transmission.

First the DN01 then this, I hope the 'new' CBR is really good or I think my next bike will be a non-Honda (likely a Yamaha)

I thought your next bike was a Ducati.

How foolish of them to advance motorcycle technology like that.

Phobe, what kind of range do you get out of a tank currently (in 'average' riding) and - do you think running a DCT model in "A" mode would at all improve on that?

Not thinking that's it's purpose…but I know with the ratio tricks they do with the Civic's and such now that they actually get better MPG in the auto trim than manual.

Given unlimited funding it would be probably.
Exactly. I think Honda is marching ahead fast in the wrong direction.

Advancing motorcycle technology is generally a good thing.
Advancing motorcycle technology on the wrong motorcycle is generally not a good thing.

I am not even saying that it is a bad thing on a VFR (though I don't see the need). Rather it seems all of Honda's energy is going to area that I have zero interest. Automatics, air bags, anti-lock while the effort on slippers, traction control, trackability, performance seems low to me. I would have been interested in the 700 but that was a HUGE disappointment to me. Seems underpowered heavy and expensive, a Interceptor from 2-3 years ago with hard bags would be a better bike.

Seems Bold New Graphics is their design philosophy now.

Let me see if I understand the question....why put advanced technology on a bike ridden by people with higher incomes, more motorcycle knowledge and longer product lifecycles?

The CBR600RR is there, and the 1000RR was there until Aprilia and BMW fired shots across it's price increased bow.

ALL of the Japanese makers need to work hard on their open bikes, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the VFR.

I guess you haven't ridden either the newer 600 or 1000. they are so easy to ride fast on the track its not even funny. and the slipper clutch in the 1000RR is amazing. JetB didn't even notice when I was right next to him on the straight that I downshifted instead of upshifted.

I get 300Kms to a tank which works out to about 40mpg or just under. It took 1000Kms for the motor to loosen up.... during break-in it only got 31mpg. From what I'm reading on the VFR boards the DCTs are getting a bit better mileage... 44-45mpg.

Do you feel BMW, Porsche, and Ferrari are going in the wrong direction with their top-end performance cars?

The 600RR is hands-down the best-in-class supersport and the 1000RR was the best until the BMW came along. (and the Honda is still probably faster for average riders) Has your 1000RR even turned a wheel on the track? For the type of riding you're doing on it the VFR would be far superior.

I can't think of a better platform to introduce the World's first motorcycle DCT than the VFR1200. Except maybe the 1000RR. A 2012 1000RR with an extra 10-15hp, a 7-speed DCT and a full electronic aid package would be awesome.

Hmmm...DCT on the 1000RR...we'll see if they can make it light enough...

My comment was meant more in general terms, not specific to the DCT and the VFR.

In fact, I probably agree; the VFR might very well have been the right place TO introduce it - if that's your bag. Time will tell.

Interesting...although I would never really let mileage win out for passion, that is neat. So after a hundred k miles or so I would be price justified in getting a DCT model ;)

The CBR has been on the track at Grattan as a 2 up machine only. I considered a VFR but could not get my brain around the linked brakes. I have no complaints as I do spend a decent amount in the hills so a lighter bike is nice to have. When I went to KY with everyone there was a noticeable difference between me and the VFRer's when things tightened (and those were fairly open compaired to the smokies). Not bad bikes and if you do two up I could see the new VFR being nice.

As to the 1KR and 600 I think they could easily do much better or it is time for another RC. Think 600 with a single side swing arm, easy change clutch, data aq package, traction control, easy removal of road crud, better suspension, etc. Oh and available HRC goodies. A sheep can dream (better a 400)

There's a 1200F in the local Honda joint down here for $15,999. Based on how I got them talking about it, I bet I could offer them $14k OTD and they'd have a hard time turning the down the offer...
