Great work- hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of riding it.

Where did you source the exhaust pipes?

After rejetting (it was horribly lean at idle and part throttle, even with mixture screws 4+ turns out) it is running damn near perfect now. I wanted larger pilot fuel jets and smaller pilot air jets, so I had to make my own. The stock pilot fuel jet is a #35, so it's a pretty small orifice. I ended up getting a #78 wire gauge drill bit (smallest drill bit I've ever seen!) that enlarged those to roughly a 40 jet (.406 mm). The pilot air jets had to be made smaller, so I soldered then shut then drilled them with a #62 wire gauge drill, so they're pretty close to a 100 (.965 mm). The stock pilot air jets are 115 on the 1976, but they were smaller on the 75 and 77 model years. It seems to work!

The exhaust pipes are Helix upswept megaphones, I found one cheap on ebay and had to order one for the other side. I had to drill the baffles to get enough flow to get it to pull smoothly to redline.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback on the bike, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Now that the jetting is "close enough that I don't ever want to pull those carbs off the bike again" I'll officially call this project completed!

Now on to something else...

Just another update. The bike is running great, but after a few longer rides I think I'm going to try to find a set of 35 pilots again (not standard jets, and no longer available from Honda). It runs ok on the low end, but it gets absolutely crap fuel mileage. I think it was a bit too much to go with smaller air pilots AND bigger fuel pilots. Lesson learned (again) to only do one thing to your jetting at a time.

I think the bike is finally "done" for the most part. I ended up finding a rear fender to cut up on ebay for cheap, so I got around to doing the rear fender mod I wanted, and removed the front. I just didn't want to chop up the fenders that were on the bike - they were still in excellent shape.

Thanks everyone for the compliments, I'm just glad to finally have it pretty much done. :D I think I will take it to the Sept cruise night, but I need to start polishing all that aluminum now to have it clean by then :o

It IS a sharp bike, for sure.:) I haven't had much to say about this project, but I've really enjoyed reading about it. It amuses me that so many people think that a Wing can't be used in a sporting manner, or, for that matter, just ridden hard. I've been telling you for years, guys.:)

That looks awesome! Congrats on the completion, and I hope you have fun riding it and showing off the results of your handiwork.
